How to wash silk properly - Part 2
Silk is a very delicate material and it should be treated accordingly. It will "repay" you badly for rough handling or the use of inappropriate detergent.
When hand washing silk, leave it in a lukewarm water bath for just a short time and then gently wring it out. No vigorous rubbing or scrubbing, please. Rinse thoroughly in clean water, then just squeeze lightly in a terry towel and set to dry. Of course, never place in a heater or direct sunlight.
Or pop it in the washing machine. Definitely use a wash bag and select the "hand wash" or "silk" program, depending on what your washing machine allows. It will always be at a maximum temperature of 30°C. Spin on the lowest possible speed and then dry as described above.
Choosing the right detergent will be our next installment.
