TIPS FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF MATERIALS
NOTICE
Be aware that all types of natural materials (wool, silk, cotton, linen, viscose and its modifications) may shrink when washed for the first time. Take this into account before sewing.
Never steam materials containing lycra or elastane!
If you are unsure of any procedure, always test on a piece of fabric. In any case, always follow the care symbols listed for each material.
ACETATE
Fabrics with a high percentage of acetate lose their shape and sheen when washed, i.e. they degrade. Dry cleaning is a better option. When ironing, use a moderate temperature, especially avoid steaming. Please follow the maintenance symbols listed.
COTTON
Can be washed normally in most cases. Ironing should be carried out according to the appropriate markings on your iron. Please follow the maintenance symbols listed.
FAKE LEATHER
In most cases can be washed in lukewarm water, preferably by hand. Iron on the reverse side only on the lowest temperature setting of the iron, do not steam. Please follow the symbols given for maintenance.
LINEN
Can be washed normally in most cases. Ironing should be carried out according to the appropriate markings on your iron. Please follow the maintenance symbols.
POLYACRYLIC
Fabrics with a polyacrylic content can be washed in lukewarm water, preferably by hand. Do not tumble dry or steam. Please follow the care symbols given.
NYLON
This material can be washed at moderate temperatures up to 30°C. When ironing, select the lowest setting according to the relevant markings on your iron. Please follow the maintenance symbols shown.
POLYESTER
This material can be washed at moderate temperatures up to a maximum of 30°C. When ironing, select the lowest setting according to the relevant markings on your iron. Please follow the maintenance symbols shown.
SILK
Dry cleaning is recommended, especially for stronger qualities such as doupions, bouclé, taffetas, etc. In contact with water, it may lose some of its strength and lustre, i.e. degrade. If you still want to wash the silk, do so by hand and under the following conditions:
- use only special mild detergents designed for this quality
- wash only briefly in cool water, gently running the material through the water
- do not wash or scrub the material
- it is recommended to rinse the material briefly in cool water with a teaspoon of wine vinegar
- after washing, gently wrap the material in a soft towel and gently squeeze out the excess water
- iron on the reverse side, on a very low temperature as marked on your iron
This is easier if the material is slightly damp. Never use a water spray or a steam iron when ironing. Please follow the symbols for maintenance.
WOOL
Dry cleaning is recommended. Some types, especially when mixed with other fibres, can be washed - in principle by hand and under the following conditions:
- use only special mild detergents designed for this quality
- wash only in lukewarm water, taking particular care to ensure that the water temperature is the same when washing and soaking
- only gently wring the material, do not wash or scrub
- gently squeeze out excess water
- iron at medium temperature as marked on your iron
- if you want to use a steamer, always test on a sample of the material. Some types, especially blends, cannot tolerate it.
Please follow the symbols for maintenance.
FINE ANIMAL HAIR MATERIALS (CASHMERE, ANGORA, ETC.), HIGH QUALITY SUPERFINE WOOL, PILE WOOL
Dry clean only. Please follow the maintenance symbols listed.
VISCOSE
In most cases can normally be washed at up to 30°C. Iron at lower temperatures as indicated on your iron. Please follow the symbols for maintenance.
